Patient Access to Medical Records

Statement of Intent

NHS England, through new contractual requirements, requires practices to:-

  • Summary Care Record - enable successful automated uploads of any changes to a patient’s summary information, at least on a daily basis, to the Summary Care Record (SCR) or have published plans in place to achieve this.

Having your Summary Care Record (SCR) available will help anyone treating you without your full medical record. They will have access to information about any medication you may be taking any drugs that you have a recorded allergy or sensitivity to. Of course if you do not want your medical records to be available this way then you will need to let us know so that we can update your record. Please email us at: or write to us at the practice address if you wish to opt out of this service.

The Waterloo Medical Centre is currently working closely with NHS England and IT Departments to enable the practice to offer this service as quickly as possible and no later than the 31st March 2015.

  • GP2GP System - utilise the GP2GP facility for transfer of all patient records between practices, when a patient registers or de-registers (not for temporary patient registrations). The GP2GP facility provides the ability for patients records to be safely and quickly transferred from one practice to the next as a patient re-registers.

The Waterloo Medical Centre can confirm that GP2GP transfers of patient medical records are already in use.

  • Patient Online - Promote and offer the facility to enable patient’s online access to appointments, prescriptions, allergies and adverse reactions or have published plans in place to achieve this by 31st March 2015.

The Waterloo Medical Centre can confirm that Patient Online facilities for booking or cancelling appointments and ordering of repeat medications are already available. Further work is currently underway to offer our patients access to their records relating to allergies and adverse reactions, and vaccinations and this service will be available through our online service ( by the 31st March 2015.
